PFUJ To Launch Sustained Struggle

PFUJ To Launch Sustained Struggle

PFUJ Secretariat

Media Release

KARACHI, Oct 26: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has decided to launch a series of agitation campaigns for pressing the demand of implementation of the Seventh Wage Award which includes a demonstration before the Sindh High Court on Oct 27, a sit-in in front of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and a countrywide black day.
The decision was taken at the PFUJ’s Federal Executive Committee (FEC) meeting in its second day session at the KPC under the chairmanship of Mr Pervez Shaukat, President of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists. The FEC is being attended by the office-bearers of PFUJ, executive council members, president and secretaries of UJs, representing major cities of the country.
The FEC meeting, hosted by the Karachi Union of Journalists, expressed its concern that the wage award’s implementation has been arbitrarily blocked with mala fide intentions by the media owners on various pretexts while the government was playing the role of a silent spectator while morally and financially patronizing them, fearing their wrath and pressure of media houses.
The meeting also decided not to allow any attempt to sabotage the PFUJ’s long standing stand and derailing it from fighting the cause of journalists by a handpicked person who at the behest of media owners was undermining the cause and dignity of the PFUJ and also creating chaos and rift in the PFUJ by scandalizing and sending and releasing mails and press releases.
The FEC, taking serious notice of the slandering campaigns by Mr Ahsan Zia, unanimously decided to remove him from his office as well as to de-roll his membership of the PFUJ for ever.
The FEC also declared that the PFUJ executive council is lawfully and constitutionally functioning and termed the attempt of disrupting its functioning unconstitutional, illegal and without lawful authority.
